Mingoes turn back Avengers
The UB Mingoes took on the Airport Authority Avengers at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium in UB showcase action with high hopes.
The Mingoes got off to a slow start in the contest going down 6-0 before the Avengers won the first quarter 18-17. The second quarter was the same as the Avengers went into the intermission with a 34-27 lead.
After trailing by eight points heading into the fourth quarter, the Mingoes woke up and started to cut into the Avengers lead.
Team captain, Theodore Grant made a layup to tie the game at 61 points apiece with 3:36 remaining in the game. Gregory Cox connected on a layup to give the Mingoes their first lead of the game– 63-61 with 2:19 left on the game clock.
Those two layups were a part of a 10-0 run. Audley Russell got a block that quickly turned into offense that saw a wide open Gabriel Styles making the easy layup to put the game to bed with a 71-62 lead. The Mingoes go on to pick up the 72-64 win.
Grant ended the night with 23 points, 12 assists, 8 rebounds and 7 steals. Jerehmiah Miller put up 14 points with 11 rebounds and 2 blocks. Cox pulled down 12 rebounds along with six steals and four points.
