Mingoes turn back Aces in straight sets
The University of The Bahamas women's volleyball team only needed three sets to dispose of the Aces in the New Providence Volleyball Association (NPVA) action on Sunday at the D.W Davis Gym.
UB dismantled the Aces 25-16; 25-19; and 25-15 to extend their win streak to four games to sport a 9-6 win/loss record on the season.
UB's Patrice Ferguson led all scorers with 16 total points. Zarria Rose finished with 12 points while Anjeniker Joseph finished with nine points.
Shanyhah Bowe led the Aces with 12 points in the loss.
Raymond Wilson, head coach for UB said that his team need to close games faster.
"Moving towards the playoff round, we have to be more efficient," Wilson said. "When we have a team down, we have to learn to put them away fast. Once you give a team life, anything can happen."
UB got out to an 8-5 lead in the first set but the Aces kept it close after UB led 16-13. That was the turning point of the set as UB went on a run to lead 21-14 before closing the first set out with a 25-16.
Like the first set, UB took control of the second set early with a 8-4 lead before extending it to 16-8. UB went up 21-9 before holding off an Aces come back for the 25-19 win.
UB started off with five unanswered points with Ferguson serving in the third set. UB went up 16-7 before leading 21-10. Wilson called a timeout to settle UB with the score on 23-14. They went on to win 25-15.
UB will get a challenge when they face the second place Lady Warhawks at 7.30 on Friday, March 6 at the D.W. Davis Gym.
