Mingoes buckle in final Showcase match
The University of The Bahamas women's volleyball team wrapped up the UB Volleyball Showcase with a 3-2 loss against the Spikers on Thursday at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.
They fell 25-21, 25-17, 25-23, 25-18 and 15-12.
It was a competitive start to the first set as the Spikers did not let UB get too far as they tied the set at 8-8. Spikers went up 15-17 and never looked back to take the first set 25-21. UB trailed 1-0 at the end of the first set.
The second set started out very close also but UB began to create some separation with an 11-8 lead. That lead ballooned to 18-11 as UB sat in the driver's seat in that set. UB returned the favor winning the second set 25-17 to tie the match at 1-1.
The Spikers got off to a strong start in the third set, leading the way 10-7. UB offense went up a notch as they took the 11-10 lead before going up 15-11. As expected, Spikers battled back to make it a 24-22 game before UB won 25-23. UB held the 2-1 lead and looked to close the match in the fourth set.
It was all Spikers in the beginning of the fourth set as they went up 9-5 on UB. A 16-10 lead by the Spikers forced a time out by UB. It was all Spikers the rest of the was as UB fell 25-18 as the deciding fifth set was needed.
It was a fight at the start of the fifth set as it was tied at 5-5. The Spikers went up 8-5 after UB lost focus. UB tied the game at 12-12 and looked to catch new life. They did not score anymore points as the Spikers won 15-12 and the match 3-2.
