Mingoes take care of Spikers
The third time was the charm for the University of The Bahamas Mingoes women's volleyball team who took care of the Spikers for the first time in three tries in the UB Volleyball Showcase Thursday.
Playing at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium, UB came out on top with a 3-1 victory. They won the first, third and fourth sets.
UB got off to a slow start in the first set as they had a difficult time returning Spikers serves. The Spikers took a 6-1 lead in the set. After a UB timeout, the team settled in and began to play with more urgency before taking the 21-20 lead. The game was tied at 25 points as UB got the momentum. Both teams were battling hard to win the set, but UB came away with a 29-27 win to grab the 1-0 lead.
UB was a couple steps behind the Spikers in the second set. The Spikers got the 18-13 lead and went on to grab the 25-16 second set win. The match was tied at one set each. UB had to find a way to get the second set out of their memory to not let the Spikers go up 2-1. They did just that with a strong start in the third set as they came out confident. They went on to take a 20-15 lead. The Spikers attempted to make a comeback in that set, but UB held them off 25-21.
The Spikers came out tough in the fourth set and looked to force a fifth set. UB did not want a fifth set, so they held a slim lead in the fourth set, 18-15. UB kept their composure and led 23-20 before eventually winning the set 25-20 to win the match.
