Mingoes pick up second win of season

The Mingoes women's softball team got a strong showing on defense to turn back the Cyber Tech Blue Marlins with a 12-4 victory as the second half of the New Providence Softball Association action got underway.

Playing at the Banker's Field and the Blue Hills Sporting Complex, the Mingoes also got a strong start offensively in the bottom of the first inning where they scored nine runs. They only gave up two runs at the top of the first inning.

The Mingoes' head coach, Shane Albury said pitcher Nabria Hamilton struggled a little bit in the first inning but leveled out the rest of the game.
"They were able to score two runs in the first inning off of no hits and Hamilton was able to pick it up the rest of the game. A few of the younger players got into the game which is always a good thing. I was able to rest a few players today as we have a big game on Saturday. The ladies kept their enthusiasm up in all aspects of the game and that's what I expect of them and look forward to," Albury said.

Hamilton who got the win and three strikeouts, also had showed out on the offensive side where she went 1-for-2 with one run batted in (RBI). She crossed the home plate once on a slide to beat the Blue Marlins catcher, Asia Rahming.

Third baseman Adonya Rolle finished the game with two runs. She was happy that they pulled out victory.
"Going back to last game, I thought we plyed well but I am glad that we were able to hold our own and come out with the win. We had some good defense tonight and we didn't have our usual pitcher but Hamilton did a good job and we were able to back her up defensively," Rolle stated.

Two other Mingoes crossed the home plate twice – center fielder Syazha Kelly, and left fielder Deantae Coakley.

Albury is hoping that his team take the momentum to this game to their next game that is set for Saturday against the R&B Operators. That game starts at 7 p.m.
