It took a penalty shootout to determine a winner and in the end, the University of The Bahamas Mingoes men's soccer team's quest for a double trophy came to an end as Dynamos F.C. won 5-4 on penalty kicks on Sunday at the the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Fields.
UB already won the Bahamas Men's Soccer League but fell int he semi-finals in the Knockout Cup after the match ended 3-3 at the end of 90 minutes.
The penalty shootout saw UB getting off to a rough start by missing the first shot. UB's goalkeeper, Antonio Beckford got help from the goalposts as UB was still in it. On their sixth attempt, UB missed that kick and their chances at taking home two trophies.
Midfielder kevin Thomas opened the scoring in the game for UB as they went in 2-0 at the half. Dynamos scored two goals in the second half to go up 2-1 before Clerdjivensky Clerjuste scored a free-kick to tie it. Thomas scored his second goal of the match in injury time to put his side up 3-2. Dynamos responded with a breakaway goal just before the full-time whistle as the game ended 3-3.
UB return to play for third place against United F.C. at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 17 at the Roscow A.L Davies Soccer Fields.
