Mingoes edge Dynamos 2-1 in key clash

There was a lot at stake for the University of The Bahamas men's soccer team but they rose to the occasion and edged out Dynamos F.C. 2-1 in the Bahamas Men's Soccer League action on Sunday.

The win was what they needed after suffering their first loss of the season last week. UB got goals from captain and midfielder Ronaldo Green and Nahum Johnson.

Johnson said that they needed this win to keep their chances of winning the league alive.

"This was a tough game," Johnson said. "It was probably one of the hardest one of the season. We had to put up a fight and this game gives us momentum going into our next game."

The game was dead-locked at 1-1 and as expected with two top teams in the league, it was highly competitive and physical. The 73rd minute saw winger Clerdjivensky Clerjuste beating his defender and crossing the ball across the face of the goal as Johnson who is looking to get back into form, got the go-ahead goal to put UB up 2-1.

"It was important to me because it shows that I am capable to be the striker for this team. It showed that I can step up in big games," Johnson said.

UB stopped any comeback by Dynamos to take home the three points.

Dynamos scored in the first minute of the game with a shocker on UB's defense to take the 1-0 lead. UB was able to regain composure and kept focus. Green got an aerial pass from Clerjuste and he beat the keeper to score in the 13th minute for the equalizer."

UB sports a 9-1-3 win/lose/draw record on the season with 30 points.

Next up for UB is a crucial matchup against third-place Renegades F.C. at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 22 at the Roscow A.L Davies Soccer Fields.
