Mingoes open local BFA season in scoreless loss

It was not the start that the University of The Bahamas men's soccer team wanted when they lost 2-0 to Renegades F.C Sunday, November 3 in Bahamas Football Association action at the Roscow A.L Davies Soccer Fields.

It was the team's season-opener in the 2024/2025 Bahamas Men's Soccer League.

Head coach Alex Thompson said the team will have to watch the film to see exactly what happened in the match.

"Certain individuals didn't show up today," he said. "It's the first league match for some guys so I don't know if it was the nerves. I don't know if it was the competition because Renegades are a good team that finished top three last year, but some guys just weren't up for it today."

UB had seven chances on goal—compared to Renegades 17—but were not able to place it in the back of Renegades goal.

It was a scoreless first half for both teams in a physical game that saw six yellow cards to UB and five yellow cards to Renegades. Renegades scored first in the 64th minute before they put away their insurance goal in injury time.

UB attackers Marlon Barnes, Ronaldo Green and O'Bryan Hinds had chances but were stopped by the Renegades defense.

UB's keeper Joshua Dames had a busy night as well.  He had six saves on the night compared to just one  save by The Renegade's keeper.

The Mingoes next play Inter Nassau F.C. 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 6 at the RALD Soccer Field.
