UB Golfer Darius Thompson on winning team at inaugural Mingoes Golf Invitational

The team of UB golfers Darius Thompson and Rachel Scott along with former UB men's soccer coach Dion Godet and Andrew Benjamin won the inaugural Mingoes Golf Invitational, powered by Leno, Sunday at The Royal Blue Golf Course at Baha Mar.

Thompson said the win was special for him.

"Playing in our own tournament made quite a difference," he said. "We made about four birdies and we shot very good today (Sunday) so it was good out there."

Quant said at the start of the tournament she was nervous.

"But once I got here and saw my team members, I was confident that we were going to do well," she said. "I am coming back next year to get the win."

Former UB men's soccer coach Godet called the experience fun and enjoyed every minute of the day.

"The University gave me a fun group of young people to enjoy some of the sun with" he said. "The young people played and I got a little golf understanding and I turned into a useful coach. They listened to me and that was our success today (Sunday)."

The tournament—the brainchild of UB coach Fred Taylor—was designed to not only raise fund for the men and women's team but also bring attention to growing program.

"From all indication it was a success," UB Athletics Director Kimberley Rolle said.  "We got a lot of positive feedback to tournament and many of the country's top golfers and those who just love to play say they are looking forward to the next one."

The team of Larry Wilson, Chadeau Wilson, and UB Board of Trustee members Dr. Barry Rassin and Brian Jones took second; and the team of UB golfer Travis Cartwright, Andrew Bell, David Knowles and Kelsey Rolle took third. The fourth spot went to the team of Lee Brice, Horris Miller, Mark Robinson and Ural Pratt.
